01About

A new firm, built bypeople who are not new.

Materials Engineering and Inspection, Inc. is a special inspection and materials testing agency working across Northern California. The company was incorporated on 10 January 2025, so its operating history is short. What stands behind the work is the licensing, the certifications and the named engineer responsible for it — all of which can be checked rather than taken on trust.

02The firm

Field inspection and laboratory testing, under one agency.

MEI performs code-required special inspection on site and material testing in the laboratory. Those are two different disciplines that most projects need together: the inspector watches the work as it is built, and the laboratory tests samples taken from that same work.

The company was incorporated in January 2025 and operates from three offices — San Jose, San Francisco and Sacramento. It is small and led day to day by its principal, which is the practical difference a project feels: the person who scopes the job is reachable while the job is running.

Running both disciplines under one agency means one schedule, one point of contact and one set of records. When the field report and the laboratory result come from the same firm, they reconcile with each other — instead of arriving from two subcontractors on two systems, for a reviewer to line up.

03How we're structured

Who is accountable for what.

Role 01Principal

Ramin Rasouli

CEO and Principal

Leads the company day to day and is the point of contact on scope, scheduling and price. Enquiries about a project reach the principal directly rather than a regional manager in another office.

Role 02Engineering

Derik Danialian, P.E.

Responsible Engineer

The firm's engineering work is performed under his California professional engineer licence. Engineering judgement on MEI's reports is attributable to him by name rather than to an unnamed department.

CA PE LicenseC94256
Role 03Operations

Nazir Ahmad Yarzadah, P.E.

Vice President

Oversees operations across the three offices, including how inspectors are assigned against a project programme.

04What we're built on

Four things a client can verify.

Item 01

A named licensed engineer

Engineering work is performed under Derik Danialian, P.E., California licence C94256. The responsible engineer is a person you can look up, not a job title.

Item 02

Certification per discipline

Inspectors hold the certification for the specific scope they are assigned to, rather than one general qualification stretched across every trade on the job.

Item 03

Reports that cite the method

Results name the published test method they were produced under, so a reviewer can check the procedure rather than take the result on trust.

Item 04

Same-day digital reporting

Findings are recorded in the field and filed through our own digital system the day the work is inspected, so the record keeps pace with the build.

05Coverage

Three offices across Northern California.

Registration and approval requirements differ between building departments and change over time. Tell us which jurisdiction is reviewing your project and we will confirm what applies before quoting, rather than assuming it carries over from the last job.
